This particular food 'holiday' may fall on September 24th, but it's not the first time this delightful dessert dish has been in the spotlight. Some a ya’ll may recall that Cherries Jubilee turned out to be a great choice as a recipe I decided to pair earlier this Summer with Day 4 of Uhuru Seasn’s 17 Days of Freedom , defined as:
“The Freedom to be Treated with Dignity & Respect”
Historical Context: For the pairing of this particular Freedom with Cherries Jubilee, I was prompted by revisiting that sequence of historical events where the opportunity to not only celebrate but fully exercise all rights related recently granted freedom had been intentionally thwarted and disrespectfully delayed:
…”The date President Lincoln’s signed the Emancipation Proclamation (Jan 1st, 1863) is also known as ‘Jubilee Day’ … [historical insight and commentary CONTINUES in depth on the PATREON SUPPORTERS VERSION OF THIS POST and is on the informative RECIPE CARD PRODUCT too]
All of the Eurocentric food history associated with Cherries Jubilee (involving that most famous nineteenth century British monarch + a fancy French Chef with liqueur & flambé 🔥…) is easy to find everywhere online -- and I’m not discounting any of that documented origin. It’s part of the food history I provide…
I do however have my own EXTRA, inclusive twist on this prestige dish as a culinary historian who experiences, explores, investigates and provides a "uniquely American" perspective on foods and drink of fame like this as well as for everyday dishes too. This approach I take to serve up sometimes hidden history through the lenses of food and drink is NOT as commonly found just ANYWHERE on the internet. And in the case of today's (Sept 24th 'holiday'), it enabled me / us to connect several calendar-based culinary and cultural dots that resulted in this delish digital download that I’m delighted to be gifting to my Patreon Supporters and have also made available for anyone to purchase in my TFG Patreon Products Shop.
