I am of the strong opinion that peanut butter should have only TWO ingredients: peanuts and salt, preferably in a glass jar. I like mine crunchy style, with some of the the naturally occurring oil that gives it just the right amount of creaminess. It’s bananas to me that I have to go out of my way to specialty shops, gourmet markets, or the food co-op I belong to to find real-deal “old-school” peanut butter. Meanwhile, the average grocery store—and don’t even get me started on places like CVS— that give the illusion of choice with a long row of peanut butter brands or options with every single one loaded with sugar — or worse — high fructose corn syrup! plus hydrogenated oils, and all kinds of unnecessary additives. It feels almost absurd that a place positioned as existing for our health — where we go to pick up medical prescriptions and nutritional supplements is the same place serving up the unhealthiest version of some of the food items they do carry.
Another benefit to having real peanut butter in your pantry is that it can also be used as an ingredient in recipes — savory or sweet — including one of my favorite West African-origin stews, ground nut stew. Join my PATREON so i can share my slammin’ recipe with you!
