It's SOUP SWAP Day...And New England Clam Chowder Day!

Soup Glorious Soup! …

SOUP SWAP DAY is a great fun (holi) day to nourish (and heal if need be) loved ones whether they be family, neighbors or friends…

GLOBAL, ANCIENT PRIMAL ... SOUPS SIMULTANEOUSLY NOURISH AND HYDRATE AND HAVE LONG BEEN CONSIDERED CURATIVE IN DELIVERING NUTRIENTS VIA AN EASILY DIGESTIBLE COMPOSITION”… ~ A quote from TFG/me talking about soup somewhere 😄

Making SOUPS & STEWS are probably the type of cookery i enjoy doing most. (I suspect which is in sync with my mixology skills). Carrying on a legacy bigger than myself i suppose considering that here in the Americas Black women were the original stewards of professional soup making (at convalescence homes, infirmaries, soup kitchens, and as professional soup vendors) . And Black men the originators of American mixology. And I’m the great grand daughter of a professional cook and speakeasy owner. ..

January’s the perfect month for “SOUP MONTH” … it’s the most “hybernaty” month in my opinion…the first snowfall (in years? ) took place recently (MLK Day/night)… There’s something to be said for the “volumetrix” satisfaction of being simultaneously nourished and hydrated …So much to share re: the HEALING PROPERTIES of soup… hidden HISTORY of soup…I could simmer up so much more SOUP 🥣 stuff …For now I hope you enjoy the descriptive photo carousel of my homemade & house-made soups in the pics above — ones i’ve taken over time (some pics have links to recipes and/or where to find it on a menu )…And have a listen to a short podcast episode I made on The Most Famous Soup You’ve (Probably) Never Heard of

Oh TODAY’s ALSO NEW ENGLAND CLAM CHOWDER DAY! Did you know that once upon a time New York and NJ were both considered to be part of “New England” from 1688 until into the 20th century after the New York Metropolitan area had clearly come into it’s own expansive regional identity (inclusive of parts of NJ, Connecticut etc) . There are some who argue that New York nor NJ were never really parts of original New England anyway b/c they are states with Dutch vs. English roots. I gotta wonder what all this means as it relates to New England vs. “Manhattan” style clam chowders 😆…Do you know the difference and if so WHICH STYLE IS YOUR FAVE? Let me know via the COMMENTS section below thanks!
