May 24th is Asparagus Day! and ENDLESS BREAKFAST Day! ...and Caterer's Appreciation Day!...

I certainly love any excuse for celebrating a versatile green vegetable. Here are a few *asparagus pics i’ve snapoed over time along with their context-providing captions :

May 24th is also ENDLESS BREAKFAST DAY. I did not realize how many breakfast and brunch pics i’ve amassed in my phone over the years — perfect for the theme of ‘endless breakfast’ b/c they go on and on (might be my longest photo carousel so far)… but yay hooray cause they include so many memorable communal feasts and you know there’s a good story behind each pic — which we’ll save for more conversational mediums. There’s A LOT of untold hidden history behind each and every one of today’s food-filled topics:

• Did you know that *asparagus originated in southern Africa (although most internet searches will tell you it “likely” started with the Romans.) …

• And did you know that so many of the iconic American breakfast food items were either created by or perfected and popularized by Black American professional cookery? American style bacon (yes bacon!!) , buttermilk biscuits, grits!, pancakes and even WAFFLES! to name a few…:

• Lastly but not least for today’s topics,: it was Negro/Black/Colored (today called African-American) culinary professionals who were the first professional caterers in America. They established the guild of caterers and were the go to’s for all things fine dining in Philadelphia and pretty much every other major cosmopolitan city in early America — for at least the first two centuries of our nation’s existence. i’ve got tons of intel on this which you too can get in on as a Patreon platform supporter (see also below) …
