Timely Finds on SPILL: Comprehensive Range of Resources For Those Affected By The LA County Fires
[Originally Written 1/10/25. Updated 1/12/25…]
Shortly after learning from a dear friend that another friend and colleague of ours whose home burned to the ground, and she lost everything (in the Eaton Fire that burned over 14,000 acres and destroyed more than 4,000 structures in the Pasadena and Altadena historic communities), I saw this set of essential resources thoughtfully compiled in a SPILL post — which inspired THIS blogpost so that I could be an agent of sharing these essential and time-sensitive reources with anyone who needs access to them asap but may not yet be familiar with or on the SPILL app…
[⬆️ the link in this image takes you to the original SPILL POST if you have already downloaded the app]
I was able to immediately share links to resources with our devastated and overwhelmed friend — no surprise she appreciated the timely, actionable info as she did not yet know what to do, where to find help, and so on…
Since the original publication of this post, there are even more resources on SPILL that are fully vetted and continually updated. I believe you have to download the app (to your phone or laptop/computer — or both) to see the posts in their original format (which I highly encourage). In the interim tho I’ve copy & pasted links to the shared resources here for accessibility’s sake since time is of the essence as this catastrophic situation continues to ravage a place I called home for over a decade. Many of my family members and friends are being directly impacted as I type. My thoughts have been focused on their safety, survival, and well-being, supported by actions to assist, such as sharing actionable information like this. It’s been difficult to maintain focus on anything else for extended periods of time. I’m grateful to share this expanded set of resources more broadly here and encourage you to share them as well..

I’ve also put these resource links in MY TFG LINKTREE (in the “RESOURCES: LA County Fire Crisis” section at the top) which may be easier to share than a wordy blogpost (i.e., this doc). That LINKTREE LINK again is: https://linktr.ee/thefoodgriot. A same set of images & links to these resources also appear in the very top part of my website’s landing page . Click onto any of the images in this post (or on my website landing page) for more information and/or to access the resource(s) that each image describes.
Lastly for now, a sincere shoutout to SPILL: I couldn't agree more that this new(ish) social media app:
“…continues to be a resource, refuge, ⚡️rod, center of truth (& joy) for communities who need it most, now..” Kenya T. Parham , Chief Growth Officer, SPILL

What’s SPILL ? …
Other than it being my absolute fave social media space in the history of social media — SPILL is the social media app that amplifies diverse voices (built by, for & from Black & Brown perspectives — and yes everyone is welcome) … that fosters real-time conversations on trending topics and culture. + Increasingly creative ways to authentically connect and be in community Download the SPILL APP and see for yourself!
